Producer Profile: Domaine l’Ecu, Loire
Fred Niger’s Domaine l’Ecu is, one of a handful of domains, responsible for elevating Muscadet to where it is today. L’Ecu has been organically farmed for over 40 years and is certified biodynamic for the past 20. His wines beautifully reflect our own thoughts here in Ely where ”we’d much prefer that one great bottle of wine rather than a second bottle of something ubiquitous”.
The Muscadet is, unlike most, aged sur-lie for up to 18 months resulting in wines with a complexity and richness that sets them apart.
Fred has a passion and massive respect for nature, soil and the grape, for biodiversity in the fields, hand harvesting, low yields and indigenous yeasts. The resulting wines are vibrant expressions of each variety and its’ terroir.
