Arpepe 'Rocce Rosse' Valtellina Superiore Sassella Riserva, Italy 2018
Named after the iron-rich 'red rock' of this cru-subzone, the Rocce Rosse is only made in exceptional vintages. It's a more powerful, dense wine (by Arpepe standards). Like most of their wines, this is beguiling, with smoke, dark spice, lavender and star anise on the nose. There's a richness and structure that reflects the granite terraces, the hard working vines, the 40 day maceration and 5 years of aging in barrel, concrete vats and eventually bottles. Always a triumph.

Just released, this 100% Nebbiolo shows a brilliant garnet colour and a confident mix of ripe cherries layered with cinnamon, chocolate and a distinct mineral backbone.
