Set in the Serralada de Marina nature reserve, with the Mediterranean a kilometre or so below it and Barcellona clearly visible just beyond the hills, this winery sits among the vines in a small, natural amphitheatre. It’s also the family home of the Pujol-Busquets Guillen family. Today Mireia is the wine maker and she continues to herald the families dedication to conservation and organic practices. The family has also been at the forefront of elevating the quality and global recognition of Cava and they have helped create the classification systems that recognise single vineyards through the Paraje Calificado appellation and the Integral Producer stamp that ensures that the wines are 100% estate produced.
The Laieta Gran Reserva is simply delicious. It’s a wine of considerable quality, one that is complex and one that deserves to stand above many of its international peers. There’s green apple, peach and honey suckle on the nose. It’s dry with white stone fruits notes of peach and nectarine and a salinity that comes from the fine granite soils. The bubbles are elegant and persistent.
Pairs well with almonds, Iberico ham, hard cheese, smoked salmon or cured trout.
