100% Petite Arvine
Made by Elio Ottin, with help from his son Nicolas, in Italy’s tiny Vallée d’Aoste in the North-West of Italy, above Alto-Piemonte, with Mont Blanc to the left and the Matterhorn off to the right. This is high-altitude, cool-climate, wine making at it's best. The vineyard is self sustaining, with mountain springs and solar energy providing the power and manure from their farm feeding the vines.
Petit Arvine, having arrived into the Valley in the 1970's, from Switzerland, is an aromatic, late ripening grape and this is a beautifully expressive example that combines ripe orchard fruit and floral character with the bright acidity and mineral freshness typical of this mountain variety. Although you'd be forgiven for thinking that, with late harvesting and stronger aromatic profiles, this would be an overbearing wine it is in fact a fantastically fresh wine (all that mountain air no doubt). Add in 7 months on its' fine lees and there's a long, expressive and sapid finish.
Fresh and aromatic, with notes of pear, white peach and citrus, followed by delicate floral aromas, Alpine herbs and a subtle mineral character. Dry, elegant and finely textured, with lively acidity, a lovely sense of lift and a long, refreshing finish.
Pairs well with seafood, shellfish, fresh cheeses, poultry, Alpine dishes and creamy risottos.
