Ottin Pinot Noir Vallée d'Aosta DOC, Italy, 2024
100% Pinot Noir
Made by Elio Ottin, with help from his son Nicolas, in Italy’s tiny Vallée d’Aoste in the North-West of Italy, above Alto-Piemonte, with Mont Blanc to the left and the Matterhorn off to the right. This is high-altitude, cool-climate, wine making at it's best. The vineyard is self sustaining, with mountain springs and solar energy providing the power and manure from their farm feeding the vines.
It was Elio's grandfather, Emerico, that had a particular love of Pinot Noir and the grape holds a very important place in the families vineyard. This is a beautifully expressive high-altitude Pinot Noir grown in the cool Alpine climate of the region. Combining the delicate perfume and elegance of the variety with the freshness, lift and mineral character of its mountain setting.
With 12 months in oak, the wine is bright and aromatic, with notes of red cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry, followed by violet, herbs and subtle spice. Fresh and refined rather than heavy, with silky tannins, lovely depth and a long, balanced finish.
Pairs well with roast chicken and game, grilled meats, mushroom dishes, charcuterie and soft to medium-aged cheese.
