Mix of traditional Portuguese varieties
Old-vine field blend from 85+ year vines, 700 meters above sea level in the Serra de São Mamede on granite soils, these are exceptional vines. Vinified and aged (6 months) in red clay amphoras, called Talha. On the nose it's intense, with stone fruits and citrus notes and a hint of flor. There's a little bit of skin contact and the mouth feel is dry, textured and full bodied. there's delicious acidity and freshness and an elegance that comes from the amphora.
One of the hallmarks of Susana's wines are that the grapes are old vine, indigenous and in most cases field blends. Field blends are usually found in once forgotten vineyards where native verities have naturally flourished but their true identity has been lost in time. Serra de Sao Mamede is in the mountains of Portalalegre in the coolest subregion of Alentejo/Alentejano. It's surrounded by the forests of a national park and 700 meters above the plains of Alentejo, as a result Susana's style of wines are 'not' typical of Alentejo, they're fresher by design, more complex and with an elegance that surprises.
Pairs well with white meats and fish.
