We've been longtime fans of Eulogio Pomares' Zarate wines so it was an easy decision to add his Pedraneira Albarinos, which come from the most coastal plot within the Francon vineyard. The roots of some the vines are actually directly in contact with the sea and it shows. On the nose you can smell the sea, the crab shells, the seaweed, the ebbing tide, you just know it's going to be saline and minerally. It’s definitely saline and salty and moreish, as you might expect, but with beautifully crystalline citrus and nectarine fruit to balance. The wine spends 6 months on its lees which balances the acidity and salinity beautifully.
This is worth decanting and taking your time with.
There's is never too much of Eulogio's wines to go around so grab some and then get a bit more while you're at it, it will aged nicely!
Pairs well with white meat, seafood and shellfish.
