New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc with character from the bold Brian Bicknell and his lovely wife Nic. They embody the hard working culture of Marlborough wine making and they bring their natural style and culture to their wines, preferring them to have a depth of character rather than upfront exuberance. This is our best selling Sauvignon Blanc and a perennial favourite at ELY. It’s a wine that shows a certain subtlety and complexity, with an array of fruit characters, ranging from citrus through to tropical notes. This is complemented by some secondary characters from the natural yeast ferments and some barrel aging. The 2023 is vibrant and lively when first opened but given a little time it backs up the fresh fruit flavours with an elegant structure and a creamy, textural mid-palate and a long finish. The wine is made from free-run juice to give an elegance and it then spends 9 months on its lees to add complexity and that depth of character.
Pairs well with green vegetables like asparagus, sea food and especially BBQ prawns
