Cahors in southwest France is the original home of Malbec, a variety which is now more famous from the other side of the world. In the past the reds of Cahors were hugely tannic and structured, needing years to soften and develop, but this is a very different style. Ripe and juicy, with a lovely softness on the palate, this is a Malbec of uncommon freshness and vibrancy. Probably why we love it.
Pairs well with red meats and roast dinners.
More on the maker:
Fabien Jouves is the 6th generation of this domaine, located on the limestone plateaus of Causses, with some of the highest slopes in the Cahors.
Fabiens' first vintage was in 2006 and his methodology is that of a non-interventionist. The whole vinification process occurs naturally with spontaneous yeast, with biodynamic farming and terroir being at the core of his wine making. Vinification is done naturally, in various vessel types, to allow each plot to express its own individuality.
Each of Fabien’s “Vin de Terroir” bottling is a vineyard designate wine, to showcase the differences in terroir, He goes as far as highlighting the soil type on each label.
