O Diviso, 2020 Ladeiras do Biei, Valdeorras, Spain

"Falcoeira, As Caborcas and O Diviso have helped us to understand the complexity of the region." Telmo Rodriguez

O Diviso forms part of an old, abandoned vineyard just outside of the small town of As Ermitas and it’s one of Telmo’s most treasured sites.
On steep north facing slopes, over 700 meters in altitude, which have been partially encroached by chestnut trees over the decades. Currently there is 1.2ha of old vines of mencía, garnacha, merenzao, mouratón, and caíño tinto. Minimum intervention, wild yeast fermentation of handpicked, organic grapes. There’s limited availability with only 790 bottles which were bottled in July 2022 from one single 600-liter barrel.

"Wines from O Diviso are ultra-ethereal and graceful, with great tension and subtlety. O Diviso is refined and serious, with the finesse and length that only the world’s greatest vineyards are capable of." De Maison Selections

"A lovely, fresh red with lots of herbs, stems, sauerkraut and white pepper. Excellent depth of wild berries with decadent roses. Really juicy and fresh on the palate with a medium body and firm tannins. A little more firmness and verticality here than the Falcoeira and As Caborcas." James Suckling. Drink now. 95/100

"The superb 2020 O Diviso comes from a warm and healthy vintage when they harvested the grapes quite early but with very balanced ripeness. They picked the grapes the 24th of September. It was the last plot to be harvested (always the last), but the bottled wine has only 13% alcohol. It comes through as aromatic, serious, elegant and balanced, reflecting a cooler place that even in a warmer year ripens slowly. It did ripen well this year and developed a full array of aromas and flavors, giving it complexity and depth and a fine-boned palate. It's one of the finest vintages of O Diviso and my favorite red in 2020. 790 bottles were filled in July 2022 from one single 600-liter barrel." Robert Parker 97/100

"The nose is highly charming, running full on red fruit. Although the percentage of Garnacha is so small, the varietal is still right up front on the nose with a sweet raspberry-strawberry jam. Still, the wine is not heavy, just incredibly fine, charming and sweet. The mouth is much more focused in contrast, staying much leaner with red crisp, red currant, a bit of sour cherry and a bit of raspberry, but in this case not sweet at all. The strawberry is not sweet either. The wine shows more of a lean, focused straightforwardness in the mouth at all, which is very surprising. Cleanly defined left and right, juicy and brilliantly drinkable. Salty on the edges of the tongue. More reminiscent of limestone despite 100% granite soils. A superb beam of red slender fruit, full of finesse and delicacy. To maintain this incredible finesse of the vintage, which is so ripe after all, is already great cinema. Very, very chic! Heiner Lobenberg 97-98/100

To many, Telmo Rodriguez, who, along with his sister Amaia, runs the impressive Remelluri winery in Rioja, needs no introduction but it's his partnership with fellow winemaker, Pablo Egnziza that has created the exciting range of wines that come together under the umbrella of Telmo Rodriguez Wines. The two have have spent the past thirty years reclaiming abandoned vineyards of indigenous grapes, across a number of regions. Together they are working with over 350 separate small plots, totalling 80 hectares and 43 different varieties of native grapes.
