The Northern Rhone valley is the spiritual home of Syrah, and still produces the most stunning examples of this exceptional variety. From the power and intensity of Hermitage, to the savoury, spiciness of St. Joseph, through to the almost Pinot-like elegance of Cote Rotie, the range of styles is almost as fascinating as the variety itself. Add to that some sensational, if somewhat under-appreciated whites, and you have a wine region that demands to be explored.
