We’ve kept it interesting – six different wines, six different styles, practicing organic or biodynamic and all family-run wineries, so it’s all good.
Enjoy a Rosé from Rioja, a Pansa Blanca from Barcelona or a Godello from Ribeira Sacra. Try three different reds, a Garnacha from Alella, a Tempranillo from Rioja and a Mencia from Ribeira Sacra.
Izadi ‘Larossa’ Rioja Rosado, Rioja 2019 – practicing organic
A lovely pale salmon colour, with aromas of strawberry, red cherries and white peach. A refreshing acidity on the palate leads to a crisp and elegant finish. Just made for sunny days.
Alta Alella ‘PB’ Pansa Blanca, Alella 2020 – organic
100% Pansa Blanca
Produced from the Pansa Blanca grape variety, also known as Xarel-lo, this is a crisp, refreshing yet subtle wine with ripe white and citrus fruits and a saline finish that works beautifully as an aperitif but is a perfect partner for seafood and long summer lunches.
Algueira Brandan, Ribera Sacra 2019 – practicing biodynamic
An excellent example of un-oaked Godello, this is fresh, crisp and zesty, with lemon and grapefruit on the nose, a touch of tropical fruit on the palate and a long, clean finish. A Perfect summertime wine, it can be enjoyed as an aperitif, or a perfect pairing for lighter, summery dishes.
Tobia ‘Cuvee’ Tinto, Rioja – practicing organic
A blend of Tempranillo and Garnacha, from several vineyards which are aged between 20 – 60 years old. All of which is pretty typical of a good Rioja. Where this wine differs from the rest is that it is a blend of vintages, in this case 2018 and 2019. This practice, rarely found in these parts of Spain, enables the winemaker to produce an incredibly consistent wine, which highlights the freshness of the 2019 vintage but adds a depth of flavour too. On the palate it’s pure raspberry fruit, juicy and vibrant, with smooth tannins and a touch of liquorice on the finish.
Alta Alella ‘GX’ Garnatxa Negra, Alella 2018- organic
GX, which stands for Garnatxa Negra or Garnacha, is from vineyards just north of Barcelona, about 2 kilometres from the sea, and this red wine has a freshness that gives way to a fruity (red fruits), balanced wine with soft tannins. Perfect for long lunches and brilliant bbqs. Unoaked.
Algueira Mencia, Riberia Sacra 2019 – practicing biodynamic
An absolute delight of a wine, the nose is fresh and fragrant, with aromas of plums, berries and cherries. The palate is juicy and lively, with a lovely touch of herbal freshness and a hint of sourness on the finish. Just delicious – this is what we’ll be drinking all summer. Unoaked.
