You would think that little needs to be said about one of the most famous wine regions in the world, but Chateauneuf-du-Pape can prove to be quite difficult to navigate. Firstly, there are the grape varieties- as many as 16 different grapes, both red and white – can go into your bottle of Chateauneuf!

Then there are the producers- with so many to choose from, which are worth the (usually substantial) price tag? As is often the case with well-known regions like Chateauneuf, the real value and excitement lies just beyond its borders. Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Rasteau, not to mention Cotes du Rhone and CdR Villages are producing some of the most exciting, consistent and enjoyable wines of the whole region.
