Castello di Ama ‘Haiku’ Toscana I.G.T., Italy, 2018

Sangiovese 50%, Merlot 25% and Cabernet Franc 25%.

This wine has come about as a result of research to establish which grape varieties might excel in specific soils and specific plots. It’s a blend of Sangiovese 50%, Merlot 25% and Cabernet Franc 25%., all from the Montebuoni vineyard. Deep purple and ruby to the eye. Forest fruits, think blackberries, raspberries and brambles, with ground herbs, pepper spice and tobacco. The fruits follow through on to the palate. There’s a modern, international sense to this with as a result of the Cabernet Franc and Merlot elements but the Sangiovese reminds us that it’s still a Tuscan red. Drinking beautifully now and excellent for another ten years.

Pairs well with beef and venison dishes.
