Henschke, `Mount Edelstone` Eden Valley Shiraz, South Australia 2015
The 16ha Mt. Edelstone vineyard was planted in 1912 on 500 million year old red clay soils, and to this day remains dry farmed and ungrafted. It is the longest continually produced single vineyard red wine in Australia, and is as much a historical document of the region and the land as it is a bottle of wine. But what a bottle ! Fragrant and wonderfully evocative, with fresh black pepper, anise and sage supporting ripe plum, blackberry and cherry fruit, cedar and tobacco on the finish and the finest, silkiest of tannins. A magnificent wine.
Pairs well with steak, grilled meats, cheese
